There is a bike trail along the water that runs all the way up to the Bronx...its beautiful.

Near the 2/3 (runs up the West Side), 4/5 (runs up the East Side)... both are express trains, making it very easy to get anywhere in the city quickly. N/R and A/C are only a few blocks away,as well, so you can pretty much get anywhere from here quickly.
