What is Section 8 and How Can I find Section 8 Housing?

Section 8 is a Housing Choice Voucher Program by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It provides a subsidized housing for those with low incomes. Section 8 vouchers are used to pay a portion of the rent to a landlord or a public housing agency that agree to have that amount subsidized by the program. The landlord is expected to meet the housing standards made by the Public Housing Authority. Due to the Fair Housing Act, a Landlord cannot (in the rental advertisement) state that they do not accept Section 8. Landlords are able to advertise on their listings that they do accept Section 8 and Subsidized housing. A landlord cannot refuse to rent or negotiate to a tenant based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or handicap. However, a Landlord can choose not to accept Section 8 vouchers for their rental listing. To search for Section 8 housing on Sublet.com, you can look in the details of the rental listing as this is usually the area where Landlords are able to specify if they accept Section 8 Housing Vouchers.

landlords should love Section 8
Landlords should love Section 8 tenants because a portion of the rent is guaranteed to be paid. What other landlord can say that they have a guarantee from the government that a portion of the rent will be paid? Still, landlords do not have to accept section 8 housing vouchers, but its in their interest to do so.
