The area of town (the upper Tenderloin -- we are right exactly on the border between the Tenderloin and Lower Nob Hill but prefer to undersell) is colorful, but walk-able easily to downtown. It`s the central location & the space itself that are special. The upper Tenderloin is now a night-time hot-spot -- easy going people from all over flock to the bars, late-night restaurants, mushrooming art galleries & general zeitgeist. It does have a bit of a bummy aspect during the day. This section of town, being close to the theater district for over a century, has long been a demimonde district of the city, akin at one time to Paris`s Montmartre, New York`s pre-90`s Bowery/East Village & London`s Camden/Hoxton. However, it is most definitely not quaint nor overly gentrified & probably never will be. Walkers` Paradise according to the walker website: 98 out of 100, 100 out of 100 for transit score.
