Most of Africa, Oceania and large portions of Asia have been controlled by European nations at several times between 16th and 20th centuries. By the mid of 20th century the Europe and soviet union took the attention because of both the world wars had been widely determined upon Europe and highly contributed to the decline in the western dominance in the world affairs. There was an iron curtain between NATO in the west and the Warsaw Pact in the east during the cold war. In 1991 since the fall of Soviet Union, European integration had been led to the Council of Europe and the European Union in Western Europe.

During nineteenth and twentieth centuries it has been globalize by the European empires along with large number of Muslim Ottoman Turks. So there have been a lot of controversies developed with a phenomenon of wider range of philosophy, Islamic mysticism, Christian and secular humanism, rational way of life, there is a logical thinking that has been developed by the Europeans through a long age of change and formation with the experiments of enlightenment, naturalism, romanticism, science, democracy and socialism. Because of its global association, the culture of Europe has been developed and influenced by the other trends. Since then during the nineteenth century, the culture of Europeans turned to be "global culture," by the expansion of European education and spread of Christianity.

The democratic and individualistic culture is frequently associated to Ancient Greece. The concept of identity played an important role by the Greeks invention of city-state or polis. The political geography of Europe divides the continent into over 50 sovereign states and territories. Transport in Europe provides the movement needs for over 700 million people and associated freight. The industrial revolution has led to a high level of cooperation between European countries in developing and maintaining transport networks. This disintegration along with increased movement of people Supranational and intergovernmental organizations such as the European Union (EU), Council of Europe and OSCE have lead to the development of international standards and agreements that allow people and freight to cross the borders of Europe, largely with unique levels of choice and ease. Road, rail, air and water transportation are all popular and important across Europe. The European Economic Area allows the free movement of goods across 30 states. The Schengen Area enables border control-free travel between 25 European countries. Europe was the location of the world's first railways and motorways and is now the location of some of the world's busiest ports and airports. Freight transportation has a high level of interposal compatibility. In Eastern and Southern Europe often have less coverage and infrastructure problems. Rail networks in Western and Central Europe are often well maintained and well developed, Electrified railway networks function at a plethora of different voltages AC and DC varying from 750 to 25,000 volts and signaling systems vary from country to country hindering cross-border traffic. Usually national railway companies were split to separate divisions or independent companies for infrastructure, passenger and freight operations. The passenger operations may be further divided to long-distance and regional services, because regional services often operate under public service obligation, while long-distance services usually operate without subsidies. The European Union aims to make cross-border operations easier as well as to introduce Healthy competition to national rail networks. The International E-road network is an international road numbering system covering major highways in Europe, but most road management and classification takes place at a local or national level. Countries like UK, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus traffic drives on the left. In the rest of Europe traffic mainly drives on the right with a few rare exceptions for certain stretches of motorway or a small country road. Toll roads are common in some European countries with the Vignette a particular notable road tax. Despite an extensive road and rail network, most long distance travel within Europe is by air. A large tourism industry also attracts many visitors to Europe, most of who arrive into one of Europe's many large international airports. Heathrow Airport, London is the busiest airport in the world by number of international passengers (third busiest overall). The advent of low cost carriers in recent years has led to a large increase in air travel within Europe. Air transportation is now often the cheapest way of travelling between cities. This increase in air travel has led to problems of airspace congestion and environmental concerns.
