Lynn History
The travelers of Salem negotiated for some land from the existing Indians called as Saugas. The Indian chiefs known as the Sagamores were inhabited. One year after discovering it was included as the Town of Saugus. In the year 1637 the city got its name with respect to Samuel Whiting from King's Lynn. Agriculture was considered as the major sector of that period. The Lynn's were very creative and recognized for making leather shoes. The Europeans were convinced to migrate in Lynn and make it a major shoe center. It was turned into a city in the year 1850. A General Electric Company was initiated by combining Thomson-Houston Electric Company and the Edison general Electric Company. The city was known for religious and social reform in the 19th century. The city is called as the City of Firsts. The initial Tannery in the US started its function in Lynn in 1629. Lynn is loaded with the past. It has libraries, museums or historical societies which reflect the history of the city of Lynn. In 1629 the explorers from the New England Company in Salem were migrated in Lynn. The city in the year 1643 started the iron works. The leather tanning was rapidly developed in the city. A series of tanneries were formed by the year 1775. The Civil War gained enormous affluence to the city and also advanced the shoe factories. The blazes caused in 1869 and 1889 had no effect on the growth of the city. In the year 1910 the Lynn Shore Drive was initiated. It buoyant the progress of lofty augments to gain of the shore view. At present Lynn city is considered as the biggest city in the Essex County and business hub.
