Dedham History
In the year 1636 Roxbury and Watertown inhabitants occupied the town of Dedham. Dedham was developed as the county of Norfolk. The local people's desire was to name the town as Contentment. The Massachusetts General Court was keen to name it as Dedham, Essex in England. On August 15, 1636 the initial public meeting was held. The town covenant was marked by 18 men. They pledged as "in the fear and reverence of our Almighty God, mutually and severally promise amongst ourselves and each to profess and practice one truth according to that most perfect rule, the foundation whereof is ever lasting love." To oppose the federal regime David Brown initiated a group to set a liberty pole in November 1798. David Brown was taken into custody. The town of Dedham is composed with a prehistoric timber-frame house in the United States known as Fairbanks House. It was constructed in the year 1637.
