In 1493 the island of St. Eustatius was discovered by Christopher Columbus. The island in a span of 150 years was occupied by many countries. The chamber of Zeeland of the Dutch West India Company (WIC) occupied the island in the year 1636. Next in the year 1678 Dutch West India Company took the control over the island.
