The Little Rock city is the capital of Arkansas. This city is located at the center of the state and south bank of Arkansas River. The city name was received from the French explorer la Harpe, he was traveled along the Arkansas River and discovered this area. The little rock city is along the river from Big Rock, at the edge of the river a big bluff is there and this is known as rock quarry. The city has number of historic trails; these are the part of Arkansas Heritage Trails System.

The Little Rock city has number of public and private schools and also has both blind and deaf schools. The University of Arkansas and Philander Smith College are the major institutions for higher studies in Little Rock city. The Philander Smith College is a private arts college and affiliated with United Negro College Fund. The Little Rock city college's offers degrees in social sciences, business administration, theology, liberal arts, business administration, international business, management, computer resources management, health services management, and human resources development. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Related sections. The city also operates two special libraries.

      Little Rock Area History
The French explorer La Harpe travelled 50 miles away from the present sites and founded this area in 1721. The United State made large land acquisition in 1803. France sold a territory to the United States, including Arkansas. In 1819 the Little Rock city has some buildings with few settlers. In that year construct a road from Memphis to Little Rock and this road was opened after three years. The government declared Arkansas was a state and Little Rock is the state's capital in 1836. In 1860 the Little Rock city settlers were used gas lighting for their utilities. The railroad line was constructed from Memphis to Little Rock, but it was completed in 1817. In the end of 19th century the city have electric lights, telephone, public water system, and the city was converted from frontier town to a modern city.

      Little Rock Area Transportation
The Central Arkansas Transit system (CAT) gives various transportation facilities. It is located in downtown Little Rock. The CAT system provides both daily fixed routes and express routes. The River Rail Electric Streetcar system was starting from November 2004. It was giving service to downtown areas of Little Rock and North Little Rock and it is also operated by CAT. The Little Rock National Airport is in the city region and this is the most comfortable town airport and this airport handles about two million passengers in each year. Each day more than 120 flights arrive or depart. The Little Rock has two primary Interstate Highways and four auxiliary Interstate Highways.
