East Elmhurst was given its current name mainly because of its location
which is due north east of "Elmhurst" Queens. Both, share similar qualities
in neighborhood structure and community. However, East Elmhurst is actually
consider to be a northern part of Corona. East Elmhurst is a quick
commute to the near by La Guardia Airport. Most people living in this area
live here because they need to be close to the airport. Some people do
reside here and have no need for the locale, but are very familiar with the
sounds of departing and landing planes. Most of the commerce in this
area is done on Ditmars Blvd and is almost all airport related.
