An Orthopedist is a doctor specializing in treatment of the skeletal system and its associated muscles, joints, and ligaments. They help with diagnosing disorders such as scoliosis and other musculoskeletal ailments such as arthritis. In addition to diagnosing, orthopedists help with the treatment and prevention process of these types of disorders.

You can find a local orthopedist or physical therapists through sources such as the Yellow Pages or by internet search engines such as Yahoo. Localorthopedists.com is also a very good resource for finding an Orthopedist. Your primary care physician may be able to diagnose you through some tests and x-rays and then they may forward you to an orthopedist if additional treatment such as surgery is necessary. When finding the right orthopedist, you should determine if you are having simple pain related to the muscles and joints or if you are experiencing long term pain in areas such as the back or the hands.
