Moving Internationally
Moving to a new country can be as scary as it is exciting. When finding a home, native real estate experts are a good option. Once you find a home, you will need to transport your things internationally. While real estate agents are helpful, it is best to deal with professional international moving companies that handle both domestic moving and foreign unloading. If you are only relocating temporarily, consider leaving larger items (pianos, personal libraries, etc.) in storage, as opposed to paying for them to be shipped internationally. Also, temporary furnished rentals are a great consideration. However, sometimes the costs of a storage facility or a furnished home may exceed the cost of two-way air shipment.

Special Considerations
Packing for an overseas or air move requires special considerations. Be sure that you are clear on both country's customs and regulations. Both air and boat cargo will be inspected before and after the trip. It is very important that you have all of the appropriate, accurate documentation on hand. Fragile goods should be adequate protected. This includes glass, wood furniture, and anything ceramic, such as pottery. Also take into consideration transporting cars. Flying or transporting a car by boat can be very expensive. North American cars and European cars operate differently, and many mechanics may not know how to work on foreign vehicles. Special Challenges
It is important to plan and organize as much as possible before your move, but moving to a new country comes with its own challenges. Consider how each family member will adjust to the new culture. Will the children and pets face any extreme differences? Personal paperwork, such as personal, financial, and legal affairs, should all be in order. If you have children, be sure to find a good school prior to moving. Decide well in advance what items you will take. Be aware of what electronics and appliances will and will not work in the new country. If you are taking your car, will you need an international driver's license? Health insurance is important in any country, so be sure to sort out what coverage you will receive in the new country. Planning and organization is the key to success.
