How does Sublet.com Work?

Sublet.com steps to finding the perfect rental.
  • Step One
    Browse through Sublet.com rentals.  It is FREE to browse our listings.
  • Step Two
    If our rentals meet your requirements, then register and contact the owners directly via telephone or email to set up appointments to view the space.
  • Step Three
    Check the Sublet.com daily to contact all new rentals - using email updates can facilitate your search. There are 100's of new listings every day.
Important Notes
  • Accounts are valid for 60 days and automatically expire.  You will never be re-billed by sublet.com unless you renew your account.
  • All Sublet.com rentals are posted by directly owners and lease holders. We do not permit agents to advertise with our services.
  • Great deals can be found from many of our rentals, especially the sublets that are giving up their leases.
  • Sublet.com is not just for Sublets. We advertise all types of rentals:
     long terms rentals - short term rentals - furnished rentals - unfurnished rentals.
  • Statistically, our listings are 85% available and are updated on a daily basis and there are 100's of new listings every day.

How do I contact the owners?

To obtain the email addresses and phone numbers of our owners and lease holders you need to register and pay the fee. The registration fee ranges per city from $4.95 to $150. All accounts are activated immediately after registration. We encourage that users browse our list rentals free before registering.

Accounts automatically expire after 60 days

Accounts are valid for 60 days and will automatically expire.  You will not be re-billed by Sublet.com unless you choose to renew your account.

How often are the listings updated?

Sublet.com rentals are updated every day.  Each day, we communicate with our owners, who return to the site to Update or Delete their listings. However, our database is never 100% available since rentals are turning over all the time. Statistically over the past 5 years, our rentals are 85% available. 100's of rentals will post every day and 100's of rentals will be deleted every day.  If you use our service diligently, you will have great success.

Is my personal information secure?

All personal information entered at Sublet.com is used ONLY by Sublet.com and its affiliates for the sole purpose of facilitating the rental process.
Personal information is NEVER sold to or used by any outside parties
Email addresses are NEVER revealed to any parties and all email communications between rental parties are forwarded through our mail servers
Exact rental addresses are NEVER asked for to protect your privacy. Cross Streets are used to provide approximate locations.
Credit Card information is processed at Entrust secured and encrypted files.
Credit Card information is NEVER stored by Sublet.com

What is the reason to change my password?

Changing your password frequently adds another layer of security. The greater the likelihood that someone knows or can guess your password if you didn't change the password for a long time. If you think someone knows your password, change it immediately.

What if I find a Broker on the list?
 

We do not permit real estate agents to post with our service.  While our screening process for advertisements eliminates 99% of agent listings, occasionally, an agent evades our editors. Such an agent is violating the law and will be prosecuted. 

If you find a real estate agent, please contact us immediately at 877-FOR-RENT or send us an Email with the agents contact information. Their listings will be removed immediately!

How can I access additional areas?

Access to contact information is restricted to the area which you registered. For example, if you register for New York, All Areas - your access is restricted to the state of New York. If you register for Brooklyn - your access is restricted to Brooklyn.  To add areas to your account, you will need to upgrade your account.

How can I get a discount code?

To obtain a 25% discount, use the link below to send an email about Sublet.com to your University, Company distribution list, or bulletin board. If you do not have access to such a list, you can send the email to 50 or more people receive the discount.

What if I do not have good credit?

One of the best reasons to use Sublet.com is if your credit is less than perfect. Since many of our rentals are sublets and by owner direct, the credit approval process is not as extensive. Many of our rentals do not even require a credit check. To see if a rental requires a credit check, go to the details of the listing and view "Credit Check" field.

What does "shared" & "private" mean?

  1. "Shared" means the rental is shared with another person. For example, a share of a two bedroom with one bedroom available means, you have one private bedroom and a roommate occupies the other bedroom. The common areas are generally shared.
  2. Private means you are renting your own apartment. None of the rental is shared. The apartment is entirely yours.

How do I find my optimal rental?

Selecting appropriate criteria while searching will help you find the optimal rental. Remember, flexible criteria will yield more rentals to chose from.

        Share    -  for a roommate situation
        Private  - for your own apartment

  2. Lease Term
        Short Term             -   for rentals less than 6 months
        Long Term              -   for rentals greater than 6 months
        Both Short & Long -   if your lease term is flexible
        Summer Rental      -   for all summer rentals

  3. Rent per
        MONTH - for rentals greater than one month up to two years
        WEEK   - for rentals less than 1 month and greater than one week
        DAY      - for rentals less than one week

Are availability dates and prices negotiable?

As a registered member you are given the contact information to all owners for the area in which you register.  In this case, the phrase "it never hurts to ask" is a good guideline. All Landlords want to rent their place and most are flexible.  If your dates are close 90% the Landlord will work with you.
  • Property managers tend to be less negotiable than owners and sublettors. The details of each listing will indicate who each listing is posted by.

How do I save the listings that interest me?

Use the "My Listings" feature to store rentals that interest you.
  • No payment is required to store rentals. However, you must create an account. Click here to register

To store listings

  • From search results: check the "save" box and click "add to my listings".
  • From details pages: click "add to my listings" at the lower left.
  • To view your listings click any of the "My listings" or View My Listings links

Benefits

  • Organize and record the rentals interest you
  • Send group mails to multiple listings.

Removal

  • Listings that are deleted from our database are also removed from your page.
  • If you have not used Sublet.com in 7 days your stored listings will be deleted.

Rebates from landlords

Rebate amounts differ for each listings and can range from $0 to $500. Each landlord has selected their own rebate amount and is expected to reduce the first rent payment by the this amount for all Sublet.com members. Landlord rebates are another reason to use Sublet.com to facilitate your rental process.
